Katy Phillips: MCS Employee of the Month
Katy Phillips serves as a secretary at the Marietta Center for Advanced Academics, where she looks forward to interacting with students, families, staff and community members every day. Katherine has a bright personality and welcoming demeanor that enables her to make lasting connections with everyone she comes in contact within the front office at MCAA.
“Katy is a friendly smile and warm welcome to anyone who comes into the school,” said Dr. Tricia Patterson, Principal of the Marietta Center for Advanced Academics. “She works 24/7 to make sure MCAA is seen, and heard, as the best school around. She is also a joy to work with and reminds us all to stop and enjoy the little things all the time.”
Katy has worked at MCS for nearly 3 years, but MCS has always been a huge part of her life and who she is. She, along with her grandmother, father, brother, and her children have all attended Marietta City Schools. Additionally, her mother has worked at the same school in MCS for the past 30 years. MCS plays a tremendous part in Katherine’s family and life!
“I love having the opportunity to continue to invest in a city and school system I care so very much about,” Katy explained. “What I enjoy most about working at MCS is building relationships with those who have entrusted their children to our care and seeing needs and goals being met. Of course, I also enjoy watching my boys grow and thrive in their own academic environments around me.”
A positive impact from Katy can be seen daily, and she often goes above and beyond, lending a helping hand beyond the parameters of her role. A few months ago the kitchen at MCAA had a pipe leak. The kitchen staff had left for the day, and Katherine jumped in to help. Although out of her job description, she graciously fixed the issue without question or comment. She is always committed to doing what is needed to ensure MCAA is a great place for the students, staff, and the community.
In her free time, Katy enjoys spending time with her family; her husband (Nick), their 3 boys (Isaac – 12, Enoch – 10, and Kohen – 8), and their Doberman (Merle). From the boys’ baseball games and drama productions to walking to the square for dinner and fun, her family enjoys all the things that come with their day-to-day life in Marietta.
“It is truly an honor to be recognized as employee of the month,” said Katy. “To know that you are valued is a gift in and of itself, and to be recognized for doing what you genuinely love truly means so much.”
We congratulate Katy Phillips for being recognized as the February District Employee of the Month!
