MCS NAMED 2018 AJC TOP WORKPLACE

AJC Lists Marietta City Schools as one of Best Places to Work in Metro Atlanta, the only public k-12 school district in metro-Atlanta to receive the designation

MARIETTA, GA – Marietta City Schools (MCS) has received the Atlanta Journal Constitution (AJC) 2018 Top Workplace Award, naming the school system as one of the best places to work in Metro Atlanta. Only 150 companies were selected for this recognition, 25 in the category of top large workplace.

AJC Top Workplaces 2018 “Throughout the years, the teachers and staff in Marietta City Schools have created a work culture that is inviting, positive, and stimulating,” said MCS Superintendent, Dr. Grant Rivera. “Our employees are the fabric of what makes our schools and community great.  You can’t measure that feeling through a CCRPI score or a lesson plan; rather, it’s through the collective commitment we make to honor the pride, tradition, and excellence that comes from being part of this Marietta family.”

Over 2,300 companies were nominated or requested to participate in the survey, and of the 150 companies selected, Marietta City Schools ranked 25th among large companies, the only public k-12 school district in metro-Atlanta to be honored in any category as a top place to work. Top Workplaces are solely determined by employee feedback from a questionnaire managed by Energage, LLC, a premier provider of technology-based employee feedback and performance improvement solutions.

“I’ve had the opportunity to experience what is special, different, and better about Marietta City Schools as a parent, as well as an elected official,” said Board of Education Chair, Jason Waters. “Our teachers and staff know that they are instrumental to the success of not only the students they touch, but the district as a whole. In Marietta you are not only an employee, you are family.”

MCS employees are awarded a competitive compensation structure and comprehensive benefits package including participation in a supplemental 403b Plan, employer paid long term disability and life insurance, flexible spending accounts, and more. Nearly 900 employees responded to the survey, generating over 2,300 comments that spoke to the district’s strong values and ethics, appreciation of employees, and encouragement of different points of view.

“This is the kind of feedback that lets us know we are on the right track,” said MCS Human Capital and Development Assistant Superintendent, Nathifa Carmichael. “In Marietta we do things differently, and our employees embrace and have cultivated, an environment that is not only rich with tradition, but also full of rigor and excellence.”
